For more than thirty years, we’ve been designing and manufacturing fireplaces from our factory. Locally engineered, family-run, and built to outlast the home they’re installed in.
Heatwave has been in the business of designing, building, and marketing fireplaces and braais for more than thirty years. We are a family business — which means every product that leaves our factory carries a name, a reputation, and a personal investment in getting it right.
That family approach shapes everything: we know our distributors by name, our installers by face, and our customers by the homes they trust us to warm.
Every Heatwave fireplace begins as 3mm mild steel, reinforced with 5mm trimmings at the seams, door frame, and joints that move and expand under heat. Each unit is shot-blasted before paint, then finished with industrial etch-grade SNK 74 heat-resistant paint that won’t peel, bubble, or fade.
Over the years, Heatwave has introduced a handful of design improvements that have since become industry standard. Each one came from a homeowner asking us a simple question — and us going back to the workshop to solve it properly.
Originally a Heatwave innovation, now a standard feature in nearly every braai sold in South Africa.
Designed for continuous burning over multiple evenings without daily cleaning. Patented by us, copied by many.
Added to traditional units to dramatically increase heating capacity without losing the visual character of an open fire.
A Heatwave-patented design that adds moisture back into the air during long winter burns.
Photographs only get you so far. Visit one of our distributors across South Africa and you’ll see the welds, feel the door close, and watch the flame behind the glass.
Yes — every Bogen mild steel fireplace and braai is designed, built, and finished at our family-run factory in Viljoenskroon, Free State. We've been manufacturing locally for more than thirty years. Our Ferno range is cast iron, sourced from a long-standing international partner, but distributed exclusively by Heatwave throughout South Africa.
Choosing a fireplace is a decision that benefits from expert, in-person guidance. Room volume, ventilation, flue routing, and installation logistics all depend on your specific space — things that can't be assessed from a photo or a phone call. Our nationwide distributor network exists so you can see fireplaces in person, get advice from someone who knows the products inside-out, and have your unit installed by a qualified team. We've found this consistently delivers better long-term outcomes than online-only sales.
Three things: materials, engineering, and accountability. Our Bogen units are built from 3mm mild steel with 5mm reinforcement, shot-blasted, and finished with SNK 74 heat-resistant paint — a manufacturing process designed to outlast the home it's installed in. Our Ferno cast iron range uses heritage casting techniques that no thin-walled import can replicate. And every unit comes with a 15-year warranty backed by our Viljoenskroon factory, with parts held locally. When something matters this much to a home, build matters more than price.
